Bryan Matthew HR Consultant & Freelance Writer
I’m Bryan and here’s where you learn more about me, what I’ve done so far and what I can do to help you. I think of myself as a bit of a ‘renaissance man' as I am both an HR Consultant and Writer – I have a passion for helping organisations and individuals deal with their people issues, especially in the field of improving employee well being and engagement. As a freelance writer I have a fervour for writing on a range of topics that include all things HR, cinema, spirituality, personal and business finance/investment and most subjects you can mention.
I am based in Princes Risborough, close to Aylesbury and High Wycombe, in the Chilterns just 40 miles from the centre of London which I visit regularly. I was educated in South East London and Kent before moving out to Buckinghamshire. I love the city but am equally at home in the country. In my leisure time I enjoy going to the cinema, reading and supporting Charlton Athletic.
After leaving formal education, I joined the Civil Service (Ministry of Defence) where I worked in areas as diverse as finance, audit & fraud (investigating- not doing!) but found my natural home in Human Resources (HR). There I recruited people, helped individuals get the best out of themselves, showed managers how to engage their workforce to be more productive and how to effectively deal with staff attendance through a range of well being initiatives. I am currently contracted to the Ministry of Defence as a Harassment Investigating Officer (HIO) carrying out investigations into claims of bullying and harassment.I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD), and an accredited Investors in People UK Internal Reviewer. I am interested in the areas of emotional intelligence, neuro programming language (NPL) and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as well as anything that helps people get the best out of themselves.
I have been writing for 20 years on a cornucopia of subjects. I have been Editor of various publications including film editor of the Blackheath Gazette magazine, a football journalist for the From The Terrace website and have had articles published in magazines and newspapers as varied as the Kentish Independent, Defence People and Shock Xpress. I am a regular contributor to 'HR Review', and I can write features and fillers on anything from football, HR & employment law, personal and business finance, film, theatre, TV to all forms of religion and spirituality. You name it and I can write it!
